Hello, here is a little background on me and my work I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Portland, Oregon in 1997 to pursue painting. I am an art school dropout(I studied art at Parsons School of Design, and the University of Kansas for a few years) Most of my paintings are on salvaged wood panels, the medium being mostly acrylic, house paint, spray paint ....... I suppose the best description would be "mixed media on wood." As far as the content goes, I usually use bright colors and a rather odd cast of characters including birds, helicopters, trains, corn dog wrappers, people, and a wide array of plant and animal life. Through my work i try to deal with the plight of humans and nature with a balance of humor, emotion, and sincere concern. If I could categorize my work I suppose it would fall somewhere between abstraction, absurdity and book illustration, but I still struggle to describe what I do. I usually like to leave that up to the viewer. I have been showing in Portland for five years now. A few of the places I have shown include Backspace Gallery, Urban Wine Works, Sky and Boat, Fife Restaurant, the Portland Opera, and a rather long list of upstart galleries, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants around Portland. I also volunteer with with P:EAR Mentor, an art and education program for homeless youth in downtown portland. I highly encourage anyone, wherever they live, to become more involved in their community. it is so very worth it. As for future endeavors I have a few books in the works, and will update their progress as they come along, as well as shows in Portland or elsewhere. If you have any questions as to size, dimensions, or price please contact me. Thank you for checking out my work, take care! Brent |
